Igniting Innovation in Every Space
Look, we're not gonna pretend we started in some fancy garage or had this grand eureka moment. Ignithron Quintal came together because a bunch of us were tired of seeing the same cookie-cutter buildings pop up everywhere around Toronto. We wanted something different - spaces that actually breathe, that don't cost the planet an arm and a leg to run.
The name? Yeah, it's a bit unusual. "Ignithron" - we liked how it suggests sparking something new, getting things fired up. "Quintal" grounds us, keeps us honest about the fundamentals. Together they sound kinda cool, and honestly that's half the battle in this business.
What started as three architects sharing a cramped office on Queen West has grown into a proper studio. We've learned a ton along the way - mostly from mistakes, if we're being real.
We're pretty obsessed with making buildings that don't suck energy like vampires. But it's more than just slapping solar panels on roofs and calling it a day.
We've been doing green design since before it was the trendy thing. Passive solar, proper insulation, materials that'll actually last - it's not rocket science but you'd be surprised how many skip the basics. Our clients usually see their energy bills drop by 40-60%, which tends to make them pretty happy.
Every project's different because every client's different. We spend a lot of time just listening - how you move through spaces, what bugs you about your current place, what you dream about. Then we try to build that, minus the stuff that wouldn't actually work in real life.
Pretty drawings are one thing, but buildings that don't leak and actually get finished? That's where it gets tricky. We've learned the hard way that you gotta stay involved through construction. Our project managers are basically part-time therapists mediating between contractors and clients.
We've got relationships with suppliers across Ontario who source responsible materials. Reclaimed wood from old barns, locally quarried stone, low-VOC everything. Yeah it sometimes costs more upfront, but buildings that don't off-gas chemicals for years? Worth it.
We're a mixed crew of designers, engineers, and project wranglers
Principal Architect
Been doing this for 15 years, still gets excited about good window placement. Obsessed with passive house standards.
Design Director
Former contractor turned architect - knows what'll actually work on site. Drinks way too much coffee during deadline weeks.
Sustainability Consultant
Environmental engineer who keeps us honest. Will absolutely call you out if you're greenwashing. We need that.
We're gonna ask a lot of questions. We're gonna push back on ideas that sound cool but won't age well. We're gonna talk about building orientation and thermal mass until your eyes glaze over. But if you want a space that works with the environment instead of fighting it, that'll still feel right in 20 years - yeah, we should probably talk.
Projects that challenged us and turned out pretty damn good
